How to Cook Ham: What You Need

You'll need to use an oven, foil, large shallow pan, cutting board and a roasting pan to complete our glazed Easter ham recipe. The roasting pan should be large enough to allow the ham to fit comfortably inside and deep enough to prevent liquids from splashing over the top. You'll also need the following ingredients:

  • ¼ cup KRAFT Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing
  • ¼ cup maple-flavored syrup or pancake syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. GREY POUPON Dijon Mustard
  • 1 bone-in skinless smoked ham, shank or butt end portion (7 lb.)
  • 2 lb. parsnips, trimmed, peeled and cut into ½-inch-wide spears
  • 1½ lb. baby carrots
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil

How to Cook Ham: Instructions

Step 1: Heat oven to 325°F.

Step 2: Mix together the dressing, syrup and mustard.

Step 3: Place ham, fat-side up, in the roasting pan.

Step 4: Diagonally score the ham, and cover it with foil.

Step 5: Bake for 1 hour.

Step 6: Remove the foil, and brush the ham with 1/3 of the glaze.

Step 7: Bake the ham uncovered for 1 hour or until heated through (140◦F), brushing with remaining glaze every 20 minutes.

Step 8: While the ham is baking, toss parsnips and carrots with oil in a large shallow pan.

Step 9: Add the parsnips and carrots into the oven when there are 45 minutes left of Easter ham baking time, turning the vegetables every time you brush the ham with glaze.

Step 10: Remove the ham from the oven; transfer to a cutting board.

Step 11: Tent the ham with foil, then let it stand for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, increase the temperature of the oven to 425◦F. Continue to roast the vegetables for 15 minutes, turning them every 5 minutes.

Step 12: Serve the vegetables with the roasted ham. Enjoy your Easter ham and vegetables!

How to Cook Ham: Tips on Scoring a Ham

To score a ham, use a sharp knife, make 1/4-inch-deep parallel cuts, about 1 inch apart, in the top surface of ham. Make additional scores at right angles to form diamond shapes.
