Balance out your food choices throughout the day so you can enjoy a slice of this chocolatey babka.
If you don't have a warm or draft-free place for you to place the dough to rise, you can turn your oven on to 100ºF for 5 min. Turn oven off, then place the dough in the warm, not hot, oven to rise until doubled as directed.
Since the rich dough is quite soft you can use your hand mixer to mix the bread ingredients before kneading by hand as directed. If you have a dough hook attachment for your standard mixer, you can instead use that to knead the dough.
Don't worry if the rolled up dough tears slightly as it is twisted. The babka is very forgiving so any tears will be hidden by the swirls in the baked bread loaf.
